How to Prepare to Stop Smoking with EFT

Posted by – July 27, 2010

You can be as positive as you like in your goal to stop smoking for good. But a positive can-do attitude alone will not give you the success that you seek. And we all know people who were totally determined to stop smoking and soon fell off the wagon again. So you may well ask what else it takes to quit.

Stopping smoking is not as simple as deciding to change your habits. Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known to mankind. Some would say that it is more addictive than heroin. There are very good reasons for this. Nicotine is a drug that you can take and still function. As a matter of fact, until you figure out a good strategy of quitting, you can probably function even better on cigarettes. Whilst smoking, you can more easily concentrate on your work or study, you can be calm when you need calming and stimulated when you need stimulating, you can control your eating, you can relax and be sociable on social occasions, you can enjoy an alcoholic drink and remain in control, you can sleep more easily and awaken more cheerfully; no wonder so many people smoke! Smoking works, that is why you do it. However, now you have reached the stage where smoking is no longer a solution for you. Smoking has now become a problem.

So how do you prepare to stop smoking? With an open mind and a willing heart. Let me illustrate. An open mind does not mean saying that you want to quit smoking. An open mind involves acceptance that there are emotional reasons why a smoker smokes. A willing heart means the willingness to let go of these negative emotions that are holding you back.

There is a new technique called EFT which has the power to completely free you from these negative emotions. EFT is short for Emotional Freedom Techniques and involves acupressure points and some very clever wording designed to together release blocks in your path. Once these are totally released from your system, you will have no desire to smoke whatsoever. But this presents some smokers with a challenge. When doing EFT, we sometimes, and only fleetingly, briefly feel an emotion as it finds its way out of our body. We may temporarily get tears or sadness, for example. And smoking is an addiction. And an addiction is a way of avoiding feeling uncomfortable emotions. So the first thing you need to prepare for is facing up to some discomfort. If you do choose to use EFT for quitting, this discomfort is very minimal.

As you may already know, if you want to accomplish something, you need to think it first. Our thoughts become our reality. So to prepare for quitting smoking, you need to stop thinking like an addict and start thinking like a non-addict. When you start thinking like a non-addict, you will start behaving like a non-addict and naturally become a non-addict. A non-addict will admit to negative emotions and find a way to get rid of them. Choose to be ready to let go. That is all the preparation you need. Really want it from the bottom of your heart. You can be pleasantly surprised how good you can feel as a true non-smoker.

More more people are becoming free from addiction each day with EFT. You can learn EFT free online and do the tapping yourself. You can purchase your Stop Smoking E-Book for more specific guidance. Or you can engage the services of an experienced EFT practitioner.

So now you know how you can quit and how to prepare for quitting. The next step is to choose which EFT option is best for you. Enjoy becoming a non-smoker!

Cape Town Stop Smoking Hypnosis When Previous Attempts Did Not Work

Posted by – June 3, 2010

I get the occasional client in Cape Town that says they tried hypnotherapy before and it did not work. Then they succeed with me. I would love to take all the credit, and of course sometimes I feel it is due, but let me tell you a story first.

I remember when I first watched a stop-smoking hypnotherapy video. It was by Paul McKenna and quite an interesting new experience for me. I loved his voice and the calm images. A colleague was noticing just how bad my health was from smoking and lent me his video. That was way back then in the days when videos were not yet DVDs. Anyway, I watched it many times and enjoyed it, but there was one phrase in it that would always get me out of hypnosis, because I could not do what it asked me to. So I concluded that the video did not work for me and returned it to my colleague. He was sad that it did not help, because it had helped him and his partner quit.

A year or so down the line, I had already cut down a little because of my worsening health with a smoking-related disease. Then one day, I was accidentally hypnotized to stop smoking. I say accidentally because it was by a business contact who was talking incessantly about the contents of the Alan Carr book, the Easyway to Stop Smoking, all this whilst the drink was flowing. So he managed to somehow get the message to my unconscious mind. I continued to smoke straight afterwards. But the next day when I ran out of cigarettes, I went up to the counter with my purse wanting to buy them and found that I could not. I opened and closed my mouth like a fish and no words came out. I left the shop an ex-smoker.

Years later when I became a stop-smoking practitioner, I was making small talk with a colleague whilst waiting for my next client. She asked what I did and then said “I I tried hypnosis once to stop smoking but it didn’t work.” I expressed my surprise, because she was a non-smoker. Then she explained that about six months after the hypnosis, she decided all on her own just to go cold turkey and succeeded.

So what happened there? What really helped us to stop? Well, I have my own opinion. Call it a hunch or an educated guess. I think that video I had first watched must have put some great suggestions in my unconscious mind. All I then needed was an extra push. That was it. I am now amazed that I had already cut down but did not put any of it down to the wonderful video I had watched! And I think that the colleague who quit “cold turkey” also had all those suggestions in her mind from her hypnosis session. And somehow after six months, something finally clicked for her and she was able to quit.

Stop Smoking

The more I think of it, the more it makes sense. That hypnosis that we first had did work. It just did not work when we wanted it to. A healing journey is just that; a journey. And the path to success is not always as straightforward as we want it to be. Sometimes we need to be on that path for a little longer than we first expect. And that is perfectly OK.
