You may know me as the Stop Smoking practitioner or that Stop Smoking author from the UK, but did you know that the same effective treatment used for stopping smoking can help you control your drinking?

Typically, people that attend my alcohol-control sessions do not like the group approach of the AA and prefer a more personal treatment one-to-one. Some do go for rehab or AA treatment after being strengthened by sessions with me, like Gary, who recently sent me his 5-year commemorative chip from the AA. Most simply need to get their drinking in control with a few private sessions with me and do not need to stop, like Miss A, who told me that she is now saving R1500 a month due to the treatment. R1500 is a lot of money to save every month. It is not just the beers, wine, and spirits that you buy to have at home that cost so much, you also have all those expensive extended meals that you eat mainly as an excuse to get drunk, yet again. Imagine how different life would be without having to have a drink!

Think how good you can feel if you can calmly choose to drink if you want to or comfortably stop at two drinks; how you would feel if you could be sociable without needing to get drunk. Can you imagine it? If not, then you need to see me. If you can imagine it, then you will find it even easier and quicker to get back in control.

The treatment involves Emotional Freedom Tapping, Kinesiology-based negotiation with your subconscious mind, laser treatment, and if you wish, we can also use hypnosis to cement our good work. You can even bring your favourite tipple with you and see just how easily and calmly you can find it less appealing as the session progresses.

Too good to be true? Well, this is not something you just take a gamble with; I guarantee that in the first session itself, you will feel at least a partial result along the way – or we just shake hands and say goodbye – and you pay nothing. Otherwise, you can take advantage of my very special offer of R2900 for a group of 6 up-to-2-hour sessions with me personally. That is about R241.67 per hour, 48% off my normal fees, way under the medical aid rate, and for cutting-edge alternative health treatments from the UK and USA, not available anywhere else in Cape Town. And you can even pay by card if you wish.

My calm studio is in the Cape Town CBD, very easy to get to, and open evenings and weekends as well as weekday daytime.

Get in control of alcohol; don´t let it control you. Contact me now on 072 700 5334 or by confidential email here, and we will set up that first no-risk appointment to get you started. Remember, in the first appointment itself, not later, but while you are actually with me, I guarantee at least one partial result along the way that you can actually feel.

PS – You are advised to consult with your medical practitioner before embarking on any course of alternative, complementary, or beauty therapy. Advance payment for a course of treatments or workshop is non-refundable and non-transferable. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice are usually chargeable.

Welcome to the continuing story of “Marcelle” (not her real name), one determined ex-smoker-to-be slowly but surely overcoming a stubborn smoking addiction. To give you some background, I have a good history of helping smokers quit in one session in London and usually within 6 sessions in Cape Town (different cultural stresses). Marcelle’s relatives quit with me in 2-3 sessions, and she does understand the benefits of going at her own pace, which is relatively slower but a very healing process.

We are using a mixture of EFT, Emotional Freedom Techniques, or Tapping, and kinesiology-based muscle-testing and treatment. The treatment is gentle and removes the emotional reasons behind the smoking. As these are removed, Marcelle is able to smoke less. Every time that we can, we draw up a plan to cut down on the daily number of cigarettes smoked. The last target that Marcelle had was 7 cigarettes. It is the 10th session, and Marcelle showed me her progress sheet. She had stuck to her target 3 days out of 6. On one of the days, she even went below it. So we started with a quick analysis.

The first part of the analysis was talking about the progress sheet to identify areas that needed more work. The three days of smoking more had several stress and habit factors. The most important (in my experience) were the following:
* A visit to relatives who kept giving Marcelle cigarettes to smoke with them, saying “Oh, take a cigarette”.
* A day which started with Marcelle saying to herself “Today, I’m going to improve”.

Then I started the muscle-testing. We tested for a few things that came up not relevant, and then I asked Marcelle to repeat “I´m going to improve” whilst pressing on her arm. The arm went weak. In other words, there is something about “I am going to improve” that made Marcelle fail that day. We talked a bit about that and investigated the theme of the following ideas that Marcelle felt were related:
* “My mother never stops criticizing me, and so will not stop if I stop smoking, so what’s the point”.
* “I’m going to fail anyway, so I may as well fail now”.
* “No matter how much I improve, my mother will not love me”.

I then asked Marcelle to find a time in her life that encapsulates the above. She came up with a specific childhood memory that on the surface seemed totally unrelated. But it had many aspects of root causes of smoking. The story started when Marcelle had been given some money by a visiting uncle. The rule was that she had to hand that money over to her mother. But on that occasion, Marcelle, wanting to keep the money away from her abusive mother, left to the shop as soon as the uncle had left, and she bought a big bag of sweets with all the money. Upon her return, her mother threw her out on the porch in the dark. She was out there for several hours before her father came home and let her back in. The event started at an intensity of 8. We tapped in down to about a zero, tapping on all the following aspects:
* The hurt.
* That no matter what Marcelle did, she got a hiding from her mother, so she may as well be naughty anyway.
* The danger of being out alone in the dark as a helpless child.
* That she physically could not eat all those sweets, although she had them with her when she was thrown out, and her mother and sisters finished them afterwards.
* That her mother will never stop criticizing her.
* That her mother will never act proud of her or be approving of her.
* That her mother continues to treat her badly, in start contrast to the favored sister, who gets the good treatment.
* Smoking is a rebellion against her mother, who does not like her smoking.
* Guilt about not loving her mother like a daughter “should”.

By the end of this tapping, Marcelle was so relaxed she was almost asleep. We tested again for “I’m going to improve”, and it tested strong and clear.

We then tapped on other smoking issues, clearing them. And finally we muscle-tested for a new smoking reduction plan. Marcelle tested weak for 7 cigarettes a day and strong for 6 a day and 5 a day. This is good, meaning that she really did not want to smoke more than 6. So we drew up a new plan of a maximum of 6 a day.

The plan also includes exercise. As we were setting up the new version, Marcelle proudly announced that she had had to take her jeans in at the hips. Now how’s that for a great treatment? She is losing the cigarettes and weight! And she is overcoming the many years of abuse without any psychotherapy, without painful talking about the issue over and over again, nor anything like that. Every time she leaves her session, she feels lighter and stronger, her face radiant and calm. This is why I like this treatment so much; because it is holistic and gentle, the results far-reaching into every aspect of the person´s life and well-being. Now who do you know who did hypnosis-only and got these great additional results?! As always, I look forward to the next session!

Your Friend, The Cigarette

There is a friend that sits nicely in your pocket or bag, home or office, quietly waiting for when you need it. This friend is very loyal. It will always be there whenever you need it. This friend is very caring, being there for you in your darkest moments. It has consoled you through many a crisis; even in the middle of the night when no-one else was there for you. And it is not just there for those negative times. It is also there at those positive times. It has shared your good times with you too. It was there at many a happy occasion. It celebrated with you. It rewarded you and gave you the luxury of a treat. It helps you enjoy life in every way.

Your friend, your loyal friend, is always there for you. It never answers back. It never tells you what to do; never bosses you around. It never judges you. It never criticizes you. It is just there for you, just as you are.

Your friend may be getting somewhat expensive to support. But this is a small price to pay for someone so loyal, caring, and totally there for you. However, one day this cost may become too much. Or maybe you start paying with your health. Then it will be the time to part.

But parting with such a good friend is such sweet sorrow. You may even find yourself grieving for it or running back into its ever-welcoming arms. What do you do?

Modern approaches recognize that your friendship helped you for a long time. You were not stupid or crazy to have this friend. Rather, you smoked because your friend the cigarette helped you with all aspects of your life. However, now that you need to stop smoking, you can release the reasons tying you into this friendship. And then you can say Thank You to your friend for being there for you, and wish it well as you say goodbye with ease. EFT, short for Emotional Freedom Techniques, is a great way of helping you quit. It works by stimulating certain acupressure points whilst using some clever wording to release every block in your path, one by one, till they are all gone. Try it; you can be pleasantly surprised.

Are you trying to stop smoking? Maybe this is a few days into quitting, or maybe even the first. Perhaps you feel somewhat strange. You may well ask who is this person inhabiting your body? Maybe you got up this morning fighting off cravings very proudly. Then maybe you had breakfast, followed by another. Or maybe you cannot eat, except for the odd sweet. Maybe sleep is a challenge, leaving you like a zombie in the day. Maybe you are using something which the doctor gave you but are still feeling strange. Perhaps you look longingly at the cigarettes in the supermarket. You may well ask if there will be an end to this; if it gets better.

The good news is that it does get easier. Even better, it gets easier quicker once you know what to expect and how to react. And even better than that, it gets better much, much faster when you can release the reasons why you used to smoke.

Let me explain. This person that you have become whilst trying to quit is the real you but without your regular coping strategy of cigarettes. People get so used to smoking, that they forget how to cope without it.

You may smoke to:

Wake up properly and start a great new day;

Go to the toilet (usually in the morning);

Stop eating and feel satisfied after a meal;

Concentrate at your work or studies;

Handle any situation at work;

Find something to do when you are bored;

Socialize easily and effortlessly;

Help the conversation along;

Release stress;

Have a drink without feeling overwhelmed;

Go to sleep calmly and easily.

You can take all the triggers and tap for them with EFT. EFT is short for Emotional Freedom Techniques. It uses tapping on special acupressure points whilst using releasing words. In short, you can literally tap those mental triggers and cravings away; zap them out of your system. Zap them all out, and they will be gone. It really is much simpler than you may think. Try it, and see your quit go with ease. And soon, your cravings can become a thing of the past.

If you are from a country where people do not smoke on a table in the pub or restaurant outside, it may come as a surprise to go on holiday somewhere like South Africa or Mexico and see people relaxed outside on al-fresco restaurant tables smoking. Or maybe you are in a country where it is acceptable to smoke at tables outside, and it is just a normal part of life where you are. This may be a smoking trigger to you or may be a nuisance, depending on whether you are a smoker or not.

For many ex-smokers and non-smokers, the smell of cigarettes as they walk past can be totally disgusting. And many a non-smoker may wonder if they themselves used to inconvenience others in the same way, with the realization that they must have smelled the same. Of course it is not a matter of smell per se but the stuff that you are breathing in against your wishes that makes it so unpleasant. I live in Cape Town and personally hold my breath when I see that cigarette, and I try to walk as far away from the outdoor tables as possible. But then, I have smokers lung, and I have ended up in hospital once when I had to endure a party where everyone smoked non-stop outside.

For some ex-smokers, the whiff of the cigarettes takes them right back into cravings-land. Some people even deliberately breathe it in as the nearest they would allow themselves to get to smoking without actually starting up the habit of lighting up themselves again. Others may notice how relaxed the smokers at the tables look, sitting in the sun with friends, looking happy, and smoking together. That can make the thought of smoking very attractive and relaxing, bringing up those cravings of just one, just here, just this once. Of course, it never is just this once.

However, if you have stopped smoking and still get the occasional craving like that, it is best to release it rather than leave it as a potential time-bomb waiting to happen. It would be such a shame if your years of being a happy ex-smoker came to an abrupt end because of one moment of weakness that you were simply not expecting. There are many techniques you can use, such as EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), hypnosis, or NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), to name a few. It would be nice to pass those tables and feel neutral, wouldn´t it?

Stopping smoking can be done in one session or it can be a longer process, depending on your individual reasons why you smoke. I am not talking here about the reasons your conscious mind comes up with; these are just excuses. Rather, it is the unconscious reasons that make all the difference. And whether it takes one hour or three months, the result is the same. It is the end result of freedom from smoking that you want and that it is wise to remain focused on.

Typically, a smoker reacts to everything by lighting up a cigarette, even if not aware of doing so on a conscious level. Happiness or sorrow can both lead smokers to smoke. Anger or irritability lead to finding comfort in smoking. And so a smoker becomes closely associated with smoking and everything revolves around smoking. Once determined to quit, it is best to learn and understand the reasons behind the urge to smoke and respond by releasing them. Four powerful reasons behind the urge to smoke are hunger, anger or irritability, loneliness or boredom, and tiredness or lack of concentration.

Hunger is a natural language that your body uses to communicate with you a need for nutrition and should not be satiated with cigarettes. One must take proper meals to avoid hunger rather than skip meals or eat less than the body requires. But that is physical hunger. There is another kind of hunger, which is an emotional hunger, and this is the main reason why some ex-smokers put on weight after quitting; to fill the emotional void that was previously satiated with cigarettes.

Anger or irritability is another important cause for urge to smoke. In other words, you have been smoking your anger away instead of finding a way to release it, and now you have the opportunity to start letting it go. Once the main sources for anger or irritability are released, you will find that you feel much better as an ex-smoker.

Loneliness or boredom is another strong driver for the urge to smoke. That cigarette can be a supportive , loyal, non-judgemental, and interesting friend.

And finally, tiredness or lack of concentration is another driver behind the urge to smoke. Maybe you have just finished one task at work and need to get in the frame of mind for the next. Or perhaps you have been driving for a while and need to be alert.

These are just a selection of four reasons amongst many why people smoke. Each reason is powerful enough to convince your conscious mind that you need a cigarette. But your unconscious, or inner mind, is actually after something else. By listening to your unconscious mind and releasing what is behind the urge to smoke, the urge can simply go, and you can be free to become a satisfied, calm, comfortable, and successful non-smoker.

Are you planning to stop smoking? Or perhaps you have quit already but find temptation in your way? Here is a list of temptations that most quitters find in their way. And if you have not yet quit, it is best to target and release those temptations before they occur, even before you quit.

Stop Smoking EFT and Hypnosis Practitioner

These temptations are the addict way of thinking, but by changing this thinking, you can change from being an addict who has quit or who wants to quit to a non-addict who is free and strong. After each addict way of thinking is a suggested EFT tapping to help you become that free non-addict, happy and strong. If you do not know EFT, that is OK. All the EFT statements given here can be said as strengthening affirmations too.

Addict thinking: “One puff won’t hurt.”
Freedom thinking: “One puff will hurt. There are super-humans who can smoke only one puff and not smoke again for a month, but I am not one of them. And even though I am not, I accept myself anyway. There is a reason why I am trying to convince myself to have permission to have this puff. I am open to the suggestion that like most humans, I have emotions that are driving my needs and behaviors. I accept myself despite these emotions. Just for now, I choose to look at these emotions, such as fear, anger, sadness, boredom, or stress. I allow myself these emotions. I own them and choose to let them go. I am open to the suggestion that by healing these emotions, I can be free from the One Puff temptation, and I can find the calm peacefulness that I truly desire. I allow myself to move forward.¨

Addict thinking: “I only want one.”
Freedom thinking: “I have never only wanted one, one at a time, every time I have wanted one. I am open to the suggestion that I want what the cigarette gives me – a feeling of calm, concentration, confidence, excitement, or relaxation. I accept myself despite this need. I choose to recognize my emotional needs and own them. I accept that I have these emotional needs, and I accept myself despite these needs. Even though I have these emotions that I got used to drugging away with one cigarette at a time, I choose to be calm and centred,. I choose to enjoy each moment as it comes, one moment at a time, and that´s OK.”

Addict thinking: “I miss smoking right now.”
Freedom thinking: “Of course I miss smoking. It has been my loyal friend for many years. It was there for me, always there, never judging, never letting me down, my good friend. I accept myself and my need for this loyal friend. I am open to the suggestion that I need acceptance, I need a crutch, I need comfort. I choose to give myself love, not cigarettes. Just for now, just for today, I choose to give myself love.”

You may think that what you want is a cigarette, but that is the addict way of thinking. That way of thinking does not help you to be free from temptation and cravings. By owning up to the underlying emotions, you have a chance to release them. My favorite method of emotional release is Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT for short. EFT can remove all the underlying emotions behind that addict thinking voice, leaving you free to be a non-smoker with ease, free from cravings. Freedom thinking can lead to freedom release, and then those smoking temptations can become a thing of the past.

You may find that you cannot quit until you get rid of those two limiting beliefs. However, if you will for a moment consider changing your belief system, quitting can be effortless and easy.

Now you have some background challenges to question and gain insights from. When you are ready to quit, you can move on to how, choose a method that resonates with you and quit with ease. My favorite method that I recommend is Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT for short. EFT can remove all the reasons why you smoke, leaving you free to stop smoking when you want to.

Do you wish to stop smoking? Some say that giving up cigarettes is as easy as not smoking next one, so what keeps you going as a smoker?

Let us first discuss some of the temptations, behaviors, and reasoning. Maybe like 70% of smokers, you want to stop, and yet you light up again – and again. Why? Smoking is an addiction or a habit, depending on whom you are talking to. But is it really either of these? And if so, how come some people can beat it so easily? Does stopping really outweigh the benefits of remaining a smoker? Do you really know what you want? Is it to have the benefits provided by smoking or to enjoy the freedom of being a non-smoker? Do you live according to your own values or are you in conflict with your heart´s true desire? Can you accept living a life which runs counter to what you really want? Which brings us back to the question; what do you really want?

Stop Smoking EFT and Hypnosis Practitioner

We all should be able to choose to live the life that we want, whether it is a smoking or a healthy one. But I think the main point here is how to get to that position where you can freely exercise that choice without being dictated to by the cigarettes.

Two big misconceptions that keep most smokers from quitting are:

Giving up is hard. Maybe you have tried before and failed miserably and spectacularly, or maybe you know people who have tried to quit and became nervous, irritable, or put on weight. The tobacco industry, many stop-smoking gurus, and some die-hard smokers would love you to keep this limiting belief, so you remain a smoker.

You need strong willpower to give up. The idea of willpower is a very exciting and romantic one, but it is well worth questioning the reasons for believing in it. It suggests that you have to fight against something, rather than go with an easy flow.

If EFT does not appeal, there is hypnosis, NLP, NRT, support groups, and many other ways that help you quit. Sometimes what is in your way simply points to the way forward; to your success.

In desperation for help with my symptoms and quality of life, I turned to complementary therapy, and I have outlived one doctor’s prognosis by many years now.

Write down about 5-10 reasons, and when you are ready, you will find yourself much more motivated to quit. I have listed below some popular reasons cited by ex-smokers before they quit. Of course, your reasons may be completely different, but these should give you ideas to get you started. More→

Preparing to do anything is well worth the effort, and this is just as important for giving up smoking as it is for anything else. And one important aspect of becoming ready to stop smoking is to have motivation to start the quitting process. The first step is to remind yourself of why you want to stop.

It has been found that people are more successful in realizing their goal if they write down their motivation and put it somewhere they can easily see every day. So write down your reasons to quit and put them up on a wall or on your fridge to remind yourself of why you want to stop smoking. Write down about 5-10 reasons, and when you are ready, you will find yourself much more motivated to quit. I have listed below some popular reasons cited by ex-smokers before they quit. Of course, your reasons may be completely different, but these should give you ideas to get you started.

Upon hearing from the doctor that you need to quit, maybe because of lung or heart problems.

To be around for your children and hopefully one day grandchildren. Or to be around for your partner, nieces, nephews, or god-child.

To set a good examples for impressionable youngsters in your life.

To join your partner in becoming a happy non-smoker.

To be kissed without that disgusting tobacco taste.

To save money. Think how much you will have saved in a year; what would you do with that money, go on holiday, buy something you have always promised yourself, save it for a rainy day?

To be fitter and look healthier instead of sprouting extra wrinkles and yellowing skin.

To be free from slavery to those cigarettes that dictate to you every day what you have to do.

To be free from having to keep going out for a quick cigarette in all those places where you cannot smoke.

To be able to taste your food and enjoy it.

To be fresher and happier.

To be free from that smell on your clothes and in your hair.

To live a healthier lifestyle. Some people run marathons at 80 years old, and the average smoker finds it challenging to run up some stairs sometimes.

To cut your chances of cancer, emphysema, and other nasty horrible diseases you can get.

To live a long and fulfilled life.

To gain self respect.

Better chance of getting a date who is not a nicotine addict or any kind of addict.

If you smoke at home or in your office, to have your home of office smell nice instead of like an ashtray, with yellow curtains and walls that you have to keep washing and painting.

To stop that horrible greying skin look after a heavy night out smoking.

To get pregnant or conceive. Even for men, the quality of sperm is better if the man has quit for 6 months.

To have more energy.

To be free without worrying where your next fix will come from.

Now you have the why. Write yours down and put them in a prominent place. When you are ready, you can move on to the how. My favorite method that I recommend is Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT for short. EFT can remove all the reasons why you smoke, leaving you free to stop smoking when you want to. If EFT does not appeal, there is hypnosis, NLP, NRT, and many other ways that help you quit.

Wishing you every success on your stop-smoking journey…

It was March 2003, I had graduated with my Diploma in Hypnotherapy six months previously, and for the first time, I went out with my leaflets and spoke to local businesses. One of the first doors I knocked on invited me in. The receptionist called a colleague, and they agreed between them that it was important to take my leaflet. A few hours later, their colleague called me. He has emphysema, he told me, and his concerned colleagues told him that he must ring me and stop smoking. I saw him the next day and he did.

What a wonderful freedom to have, to be free from the drug that is harming you so much. And of course, once you get emphysema, that is not the end of it. If you continue smoking, the damage to your lungs continues to get worse and worse.

If you have emphysema and are still smoking, try another way to quit. The solution is out there. The easy way is available to you, all you need is to make that first step. My stop-smoking e-book comes complete with a rock-solid 90-day money-back guarantee, so you have every reason to quit.
